Letting Go: Family Roles in Retirement

Family Business Breakfast Series

Friday, January 11, 2019

Retirement can be a tough transition for all family members. How does the outgoing generation ready him/herself to leave the business? How does the next generation show it’s ready to step up? Maybe the toughest question for an exiting entrepreneur: “What am I going to do now?” In this session, we’ll take a deep dive into the issues around retirement, how all family members can play a role in making the transition more smooth, and what the future might look like for the exiting generation, in the family business and out of it.

Tom Hubler began his career as a family business consultant in 1980, as one of the few professionals addressing family-owned business needs in the United States. Since then, he has played a major role in shaping the family business consultant field, from helping colleges, including the University of St. Thomas, establish family business institutes to working directly as family business consultant for hundreds of clients.

Today, Tom continues his long-standing dedication to helping families of wealth and family-owned businesses succeed. He helps families develop a shared vision for the family and for the business; identify individual talents; tackle any unspoken issues; and create individual and organizational strategies to ensure a personally and financially rewarding business. In addition, Tom assists families of wealth with the creation of a wealth preparation plan that ensures family values continue to emphasize a family culture of gratitude, philanthropy and purposeful living.
